The Chew Ratings up Again; Brian Frons Out at ABC

Brian Frons is Out at ABC
Readers of this blog will not be happy to hear it, judging by comments posted, but the ratings for The Chew on ABC are up.  They have grown steadily and last week (November 24th) they there were 2.5 million.  The network is boasting that during November Sweeps 2011, The Chew equaled All My Children's November Sweeps 2010 average in total viewers (2.3 million apiece).

There is a silver lining, however.  Brian Frons, the ABC daytime executive responsible for the cancellation of AMC  and the pending cancellation of One Life to Live, has resigned.

Frons' replacement will be Vicki Dummer, senior vp of current series and specials who will preside over a new integrated current entertainment and programming division called Times Square Studios.  That division will oversee the following: The View, General Hospital, The Chew, The Revolution, Who Wants to Be a Millionaire and Katie with Katie Couric.

  1. Glad Fron is gone, but he could not cancel anything without his bosses O.K. he was president of Daytime not ABC, we need a few more to retire. Won't bring the soaps back. Changes needed to be made, but I will never forgive them for not just cutting the number of episodes from 260 to 104 or even 5s new shows a year. That would have saved millions and if done right gave the actors a 8 month hiatus to do other work like prime time. dummies, they could have had THE CHEW and AMC/OLTL plus game shows and talk shows just like daytime used to be.

  2. I am not sold on Frons "resigned." I think he was told he is gone and ABC gave him the option to resign. It happens all the time in large companies.
