Ratings for The Chew Distasteful, Except for All My Children Fans

[See the latest ratings - TV Takes All: Ratings for The Chew Week Four Flat and Still Behind All My Children]

Many readers have commented on a post predicting that The Chew would fail in its spot as a replacement to the much-loved All My Children each weekday afternoon on ABC.

Devoted fans of AMC are missing the program that delighted viewers for decades.  They are not happy.

So how are the ratings for The Chew, the new talk show that was sooo not necessary and unwanted by many?

As another Web site put it – they are hard to swallow.  If you’re an ABC exec, that is.

According to TVbytheNumbers, which reports on TV ratings, The Chew ended its first week on the air (the week before last) with a 0.7 rating with women 18-49, lower than the same week a year ago for AMC, which was 0.9.  By Friday, the number was 0.6.

Bottom line: The Chew lost viewers in its premiere week, a week when it should have at least drawn curiosity seekers.

Of course, ABC boasted that its new show was beating The Talk on CBS, but that’s a lot of spin since no one has been watching that show to begin with.

The  network remains happy because it is saving money since a talk show is way cheaper to produce than a daytime drama.

I am sorry to say ABC will not be bring All My Children back any time soon.

Don’t forget, the start date for the online version being produced by Prospect Park is still January 2012 and I will continue to try to get the scoop on which stars have signed for the new version.

So far, we know that Cameron Mathison (Ryan Lavery) and Lindsay Hartley (Dr. Cara Castillo Martin) have signed on.

For One Life to Live fans, BTW, the following are slated to take part in the line version of that show: Erika Slezak (Viki), Michael Easton (John McBain), Kassie DePaiva (Blair) and Ted King (Tomas).

  1. Glad to hear that the CHEW is failing. Any AMC fan could have told ABC that. Their big mistake was trying to attract only the 18-49 and kicking the over 50 viewers to the curb.

  3. Couldn't agree more. There is nothing more unnecessary than additional cooking and talk shows.

  4. We are all realists, we know the soaps won't be brought back, ABC is getting their paybacks for removing what the viewers loved. The lesson here is the viewers tdecide what ENTERTAINS them, not PENCIL PUSHING SALARY GREEDY tv exec's who are easily REPLACED when their stupidity and greed gets the better of them, THE CHEW is the worst program ever produced on television, boring and insulting to evryones inteligence. I guarantee that when sponsors see the impact it has on their products, ABC will FIRE BRIAN FRONS, the IDIOTS at his executive table and HIS AIRHEAD BOSS!!

  5. I am so glad the chew is failing they should have let us get away to pine valley since the US is in such disarray they should have left our soaps alone I hope they fire everyone that was associated with the canceling of AMC

  7. I am just loving that The Chew is more than most viewers can stomach.

I wonder how long it will be before the network bigwigs at ABC are forced to admit their failure and try and come up with another cheap show that they think can get solid ratings? ABC may never admit to their failure and bring back the soaps they canceled but they will forever regret that they canceled them.

  8. Too bad for ABC. When will TPTB realize that money can't buy love? The reality is, it bites!! Pardon the pun! Miss you AMC!!!!!

  9. I for one am very excited to read that The Chew SUCKS. What were they thinking. They have lost me as a viewer from 1-2 and will lose me soon from 1-3. I can't wait till Jan for AMC to air online....

  10. I dont't care much for the ABC channel anymore, i watch One Life to Live and General Hospital, after that i change channels. JUST REMEMBER ABC, PEOPLE OVER 50 ARE NOT DEAD!!!!!

  11. The show might have worked if the table was seated with interesting people who weren't annoying. ABC was so quick to cancel AMC it didn't care what it was replacing the long running show with. I only watch General Hospital and One LIfe to Live during the day. I am disgusted with ABC ignoring the 50 CROWD! So what the new show beat The Talk..no one watches that either!!! Not hard to beat!

  12. I cannot lie and say that it doesn't make my pine valley loving heart happy to hear that the chew is losing viewers or that I hope it doesn't last until Halloween. Let us hope it becomes such a juggernaut of failure it takes Frons down with it!

  13. Down with the chew. Shame on you abc.

  14. Hmmm... Didn't ABC know another stupid cook show with no name hosts wouldn't make it???
Da? Sooo glad to hear it not doing well in the ratings!!

  15. No chew for me! Us over 50er's do matter & you will soon discover the blunders of your choices, ABC!

  16. I don't think it's a matter of age, I know many people under 50 that watched All My Children. I don't know any one of any age that watches The Chew. The Talk is stupid, same with the View. ABC and Disney is making enough money. They could have kept All My Children on the air. I am very disappointed in their decision and will NOT watch ABC.

  17. ABC should bring back All My Children. No one will be watching the Chew. Poor choice for ABC to produce the Chew. Too many cooking shows and this one is not good at all.

  18. Well, well, well I am so not surprised to hear how downward spirling "The Chew" is.
The show is a huge joke and so not interesting at all. Wake up ABC and kick Brian Fronz to the curb with all his associates. They are as brainless as the hosts on The Chew! I hope you all soon realize what a huge mistake was made in removing our soaps!!!

  19. I don't watch AMC, but “The Chew” is lame. I have tried watching it several times as I do like cooking shows (ducking!) Today they are making a truffle omelet. I am just rushing out to buy $200 a pound truffles so I can make this for breakfast tomorrow. Can't wait to spend $100 feeding my family tomorrow morning. This is just ridiculous. Very few people have ever or will ever buy a truffle in their lives. I am a big time cook and have never even considered dropping this kind of money on an overpriced mushroom. I am not "enlightened" enough to appreciate it anyway. LOL. The show is just not interesting even to those of us that are not into soaps. I'm turning back over to the food network channel and hope to catch Paula Dean cooking some fried chicken and biscuits. Now that is something I would actually make for my family.

  20. It is so sad that again money was the most important issue. Guess that it the way of the world these days, so sad. I so miss All My Children. I had been watching it since 1971. It was wonderful to watch the actors grow and evolve and maybe move on to other opportunities, but often come back and visit with us viewers for an hour. That hour was a time of just getting away from the daily grind. Great acting, good plots, addressing all different kinds of issues. I hope they will decide to continue an on-line version in 2012. It won't be quite the same, but many of us will still enjoy it very much. Thank you to all the writers, actors and everyone else involved in this great soap for so many enjoyable years!!! Sure miss all of you.

  22. STUPID BRIAN FRONS!! HE MUST BE GETTING PAID TO CANCEL SHOWS AND PUT ON WHAT NO ONE WILL WATCH AND TANK ABC...

  23. Can't stand The Chew! The hosts are overly enthusiastic. There have been so many references to Daphne Oz as Dr. Oz's daughter. Now they are relying on well known guests. If I want to watch a show about cooking I'll just put on the food network channel.

  24. ABC SUCKS. BRIAN FRONS?...LANGUAGE I WON'T USE HERE, BUT WHAT AN ENORMOUS DUNCE. I DESPERATELY MISS AMC AND EVEN IF I WAS NOT ALWAYS HOME TO WATCH IT FROM 1-2PM, I'D USE MY DVR AND WATCH IT IN THE EVENING. AT A TIME WHEN THERE IS LITTLE COMFORT LEFT IN THIS WORLD AND THIS ECONOMY, AMC WAS A LITTLE JEWEL OF A RESPITE. TAKING AMC OFF THE AIR SHOWS HOW LITTLE RESPECT BRIAN FRONS AND HIS ILK HAVE FOR TV HISTORY, QUALITY PROGRAMMING AND THEIR AUDIENCE. I REFUSE TO WATCH ANYTHING ON ABC NOW. I TRULY BELIEVE ABC WILL PAY LONG TERM FOR TRYING TO SHOVE THEIR MONEY-HUNGRY AGENDA DOWN VIEWERS' THROATS INSTEAD OF JUST GIVING US WHAT WE WANT. I JUST WANT TO GO BACK TO PINE VALLEY!!! AND, YOUNG PEOPLE DID WATCH AMC TOO! CAN'T WAIT FOR IT TO START BACK UP ONLINE HOWEVER EVEN THAT WILL NOT WIN ABC BACK MY VEIWERSHIP. ...AS FOR 'THE CHEW', WHY IS DAPHNE OZ EVEN ON TV???!!! OH YEAH, BECAUSE HER FATHER IS A FAMOUS DOCTOR WITH A TV SHOW OF HIS OWN? YEAH, THAT MAKES HER QUALIFIED. PERHAPS NEXT SHE CAN SUB IN FOR HIM ON AN OPEN HEART SURGERY. I'D SUGGEST HER FIRST PATIENT BE AN ABC EXEC BUT, AS THE CANCELLATION OF AMC PROVES, THEY HAVE NO HEART. ...TRULY PRAY THAT BRIAN FRONS AND HIS COHORTS, ABC, AND THE CHEW ALL CRASH AND BURN.

  25. I Loved my AMC & I miss it everyday..I will never watch the chew never have never will..ABC stinks letting them cancel a soap that generations watched & enjoyed..Shame on you! Get a clue ABC.

  26. ABC there is still time to keep One Life to Live at least you won't be losing all your viewers. If you keep this up, you won't have any viewers to sell your commercials to. Frons..it is amazing that you are still there. If I were you I would already pack your belongings..because at this rate, you could be gone any day.

  27. I dont understand the talk about Katie Couric she did not make it on the evening news show she was on which was horrible. What makes the executives think she would be interesting for a full hour of just her. ABC daytime pres Frons is just killing daytime tv. Hate the View hate the chew will not watch another talk show or cooking show.

  28. Wasn't it enough for them to replace a favorite soap with a goofy bunch of people on the Chew? No for MONTHS on end ABC had to shove it down our faces on Soapnet with TV ad after TV AD. Ew NOT YUMMY

  29. From USA Weekend October 28, 2011

    "Mary Caggiano, Bronx, N.Y.

After being on television for a staggering 41 years, All My Children was canceled in April and aired its last episode on Sept. 23. But the ABC soap opera will live online beginning in January, when the company Prospect Park will begin airing episodes on its Internet home, The Online Network. (Prospect Park also is behind the cable hits Royal Pains and Wilfred.) Series stars Cameron Mathison and Lindsay Hartley have signed on to continue their roles, and Erika Slezak and others are returning when another canceled ABC soap, One Life to Live, launches online after its final episode airs in January."

There's a sign-up page open on The Online Network website. I put in my email address and it promises to send me updates. It's extremely bare bones looking, with no instructions for putting in your email address until you type something into the top box. I instantly got my automated email to confirm. This should ease my feeling I'll miss something! The word is that the facebook page for Prospect Park is bogus, so this really helps.

  30. Oh, and I agree about the ads for The Chew making a person want to retch. Thank goodness for that TiVo remote to fast forward through every one of them!!! UGH!!!! I pity the "stars" who unwittingly were placed in this show. What a mess for them to be associated with something that epitomizes all that is distasteful in TV today.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Can't stand the Chew ads so, for sure, won't watch the show. It will be a happy day to see it cancelled even if AMC cannot return.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Ummmm, o.k. I guess you're all just resentful about losing your old soap to be able to appreciate something worthwhile. The CHEW is witty, funny, down to earth programming.... for people who live in reality. I love watching it, the recipes look mouth-watering, and many look quite simple to replicate. My daughter loves it as well, and wants me to DVR it.

  33. I have been cooking for over 45 years and I can tell you that most of the dishes I see them advertise on the commercials are disgusting. I will not watch the show with that bug eyed woman that wears the glasses or clown Mario with his orange crocs. I did look on their facebook, and the foods described sounded very unappetizing to me.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I also love cooking show but refuse to watch "The Chew" I do watch FoodNetwork because I love to cook. I also like Michael and Mario but I am loyal to AMC!! ABC did NOT have to cancel AMC--they seem to forget how many people tape and DVR it and let's not forget Soapnet! Why couldn't it have gone to Soapnet? My concern with online is how it's going to be paid for? Does anyone know?

I'm really missing AMC today...I'm home sick for the first time since it left the air and was ready to watch (out of habit) at noon. I used to tape it everyday as well and still haven't gotten used to that not being one of the few that I tape daily.

  35. I started watching AMC in 1986 with my father. After he passed away in 1994 I continued watching with my daughter who is now 25. AMC was appreciated by men and women, young and old. They had a viewership of 5 million which is twice the number of viewers for The Chew.
ABC did not show any loyalty to their viewers.
Therefore I no longer have loyalty towards ABC. I no longer watch GMA, ABC news or daytimem or evening programming. For 25 years I have watched ABC almost exclusively. I am watching DWTS because JR Martinez from AMC is competing. Once this show ends next week it will be goodbye ABC. So chew on that ABC suits who have no respect for the AMC audience.

  36. 99% unite!!!! As usual the big corporate thugs are trying to make as much money as possible.
Greed can only go so far I hope the ratings tank and ABC goes bankrupt for thier stupid decision to cancel AMC. You know enough is enough.

  37. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA LOLOLOLOLOLOL WOOT!!! The Chew is FAILING!!!!!
That's what you get for ditching AMC!!!
