ABC Daytime Ratings Report: The View, The Chew

Ratings for The View on ABC were down again this past week, part of the protracted effect of substituting two poor performing shows, The Chew and The Revolution, for old favorites, All My Children and One Life to Live.

During the week of May 29th, The View had 3.22 million viewers, which is 3% fewer than a year ago.  Meanwhile, its competitor (though not in the same time slot), The Talk on CBS, had 10% more viewers than last year, 1.97 million, and a great deal more among women 18-49, the key demographic for daytime.

As for The Chew, it had 2.07 million viewers, down from 2.18 the previous week.  It's worth noting that Laura Wright, Carly on General Hospital, was a guest on The Chew on May 31st, during the week in question, which could have contributed to the ratings.  If she hadn't been on, who knows?

    2. LOL, It wouldn't be a good plan to stop watching GH ... that would be like cutting off your nose to spite your face. The signal we want to send to ABC is that we loved our soaps and nothing they put on in their place is worth watching ... Boycott ABC Daytime EXCEPT for the only good thing left on it ... GENERAL HOSPITAL. I would love to see dismal ratings for the shows before and after GH and Sky High ratings for GH ... That would send a clear message about what daytime viewers want.

  3. I have refused to watch any daytime TV, except for an occasional General Hospital, on all ABC channels since the last episode of One Life To Live.

  5. I used to have my TV on ABC from morning til night. Now I only watch GH. It's been almost 5 months, but I still catch myself grabbing for the remote at 2pm to watch One Life To Live. So sad.....

  6. ABC deserves every horrible thing that happens to it! It killed my soaps on purpose, and I'll never forgive that! A POX on the American Broadcasting Company!

    1. Totally agree with the above post. The horrible mistake needs to be reversed. Or someone needs to wise up and bring these two beloved shows back to life on another network!

  7. I'm not surprised the ratings are going down. As more soap fans realize ABCD doesn't care about them, the more effective the boycott becomes. I will continue to boycott everything except the General Hospital hour.

  8. I turn my tv on for General Hospital....other than that it is all about Netflix and Hulu. I can watch what I want when I want it...who needs abc? While I still watch General Hospital, I will admit I don't enjoy it like I used to....the impending doom of it being canceled kinda takes some of the joy away.

  9. Not even actors we love (Laura Wright) can get viewers to watch this ridiculous excuse for programming. Like the other posters, my viewing was pretty much all ABC before OLTL & AMC were cancelled. Now, I only watch that network to tune into GH (which BTW has not received a cancellation notice). This will not change when GAA(g) comes on. Note to Katie: I hear OWN has an opening...

  10. I stopped watching ABC since AMC and OLTL were killed except for Live with Kelly because she makes me laugh and GH. Other than that I could careless about ABC. I miss AMC and OLTL so much :(

  11. I continue to watch GH on ABC, The Young & The Restless on CBS and DOOL on NBC. Just doesn't quite fill the void of loosing OLTL

    1. I agree with you - I really miss OLTL. The Young and Restless is horrible, but I continue to watch to try and fill the void. The writing was so good on OLTL and I never lost interest. Y&R is boring and they keep going back to the same old boring story lines.

  12. as much as I love Laura Write I still did NOT watch the replacement show she visited. I used to watch ABC morning -noon - and night. Now it gets my ONE (1) hour a day for General Hospital. I said right from the begining that ABCDs move to cancel daytime scripted drama was the begining of the end of that network. We are watching a train wreck in slow-mo.

  13. I'm so glad their ratings are slipping. I truly miss OLTL but am glad some of their actors are showing up on GH - wish Vickie would show up and truly make it an even better show.

  14. I'm serious about my boycotting....I only watch General Hospital on ABC! It's not easy because I love some of the evening shows on ABC, but having our iconic soaps back is even better and worth giving up the other shows I normally watch. I have plenty of other networks to watch!!!!!

    1. I AGREE IF IT WAS NOT FOR GH ABC WOULD NEVER BE ON -ITS SO SAD ABC/DIANEY COULDNT SEE WHAT A HUGE MISTAKE THEY MADE-WELL THEY KNOW-AND PUT OUR SHOWS BACK ON-AS FOR THEIR REASON CANT AFFORD SCRIPTED SHOWS-WHAT LIERS-ALL THEY REALITY SHOW ARE EXACTLY THAT SCRIPTED-THAT STUPID BACHLORTT(SP)AND THE REST HOW STUPID DOES ABC/DISNEY THINK WE ARE

  15. I recorded ABC from 1pm to 5pm everyday going all the way back to the 80's when I first had a VCR. I even wrote my college thesis on the advertising during the soaps (got an A too). I will never understand how ABC could be so blind and follow the silly reality trend like a sheep. They had a built in audience that would have been with them for many years to come, yet they chose to alienate them in favor of the elusive 'young target' who will never watch 'The Chew' or 'Katy Couric' or an afternoon repeat of the morning show. They are busy watching 'Pretty Little Liars', Jersey Shore, Basketball Wives and other such nonsense, and guess what? They are soap operas! People love the drama, escape, entertainment! ABC get back to what the viewers want, Soaps!

  16. MODERN TECHNOLOGY HAS CHANGED SO MANY THINGS IN OUR LIVES. PHONES ,CABLE, CAMERAS & COMPUTERS TO NAME A FEW. SO CAN ANYONE EXPLAIN WHY HAS ABC RELIED ON AN OLD ANTIQUATED SYSTEM TO GET ITS RATINGS ? ABC CANCELLED OLTL AND AMC ON A FLAWED SYSTEM IT CANT POSSIBLY BE GIVEN ACCURATE INFORMATION BASED ON ALL THE MODERN TECHNOLOGY WE HAVE NOW A DAYS I GET THE FACT THAT IT COST LESS TO MAKE THE CHEW HOWEVER IN DOING SO YOU LOST A BUILT IN AUDIENCE THAT HAS TO HURT IN THE END ....ABC DO THE RIGHT THING BRING BACK THE SOAPS BEFORE IT IS TRULY TO LATE

  17. Great.....You reap what you sow. With the exception of General Hospital ABC/DISNEY is NOT allowed in my home. We used to turn ABC on at 11:00AM and watch until 6:30pm...NOT ANY MORE !!!!

  18. I don't even bother looking at ABC when I'm home. There are dozens of other stations to choose from, most with nothing good on, so why would I have a preference for them? Most often I watch a movie or sitcom reruns or true crime/court tv-because there is nothing better.

  19. Actually I'm in my glory. I was delightfully addicted to All My Children and One Life to Live. I watched both faithfully every day. I very seldom made plans to be out of the house during those two hours. I stopped watching General Hospital several years back. When ABC pulled AMC and OLTL, they stopped my addiction. I now have NO TV on during the day at all. I get so much more done. (I work from home). Thank you, ABC, for stopping my daytime TV addiction. I am forever grateful. The last time I had daytime TV on was the last AMC and then the last OLTL. (I'm happy as can be).
