The Chew Ratings Week Three: Up Slightly, but Not Beating All My Children

The Chew Executive Producer Gordon Elliot
and members of the cast
The Chew did slightly better in its third week than it did the previous week with 80,000 more viewers overall, but the ratings still aren’t beating those of All My Children which got knocked out of the 1-2 p.m. time slot to make way for the talk show about food.

While the numbers are nothing to smile about, from ABC’s perspective the move has been a money-maker, since it costs a lot less to produce talk than it does to produce daytime drama.

Fans are not happy, however, so the following report will offer some solace to those still pining for the folks in Pine Valley.

According to the Nielsen ratings for the week of October 10th, The Chew averaged 1.86 million viewers, with a 0.9 rating/6 share among target women 25-54.  Both numbers were up slightly from the previous week, but ratings with women 18-49 and women 18-34 were flat.

Compared to All My Children one year ago, the week of October 11-15, 2010, the ratings have fallen.

  1. Don't think ABC is really comparing the ratings for The PHEW with A.M.C's ratings from 2010. A.M.C's rating from 2011 will be down from the 2010, or about the same, they went anywhere from 1.5 to 2.1 for the last few years, if the PHEW does that with it's cheaper cost ABC will be happy.

  2. The Chew is an annoying, phony, contrived show. The cast is trying too hard to be entertaining and have failed to "gel" as a group. ABC has been pennywise and pound foolish by putting this mindless, boring schlock in place of a classic daytime drama.

  3. I won't watch it no matter what...screw ABC and their money grabbing fists. Do they realize ow many people DVR'd the soaps? Shame on them.....and the Phew

  4. Boring, and not a replacement for the time slot. I have boycotted the 1-2pm time slot. Once OLTL is gone I will boycott the whole afternoon. The evening may get boycotted as well if they continue to make boneheaded moves.

  5. I am not turning the TV on to the Spew. I don't like Mario and haven't liked him since he was on the food network. And that bug eyed woman with the red glasses is hard to watch on the commercials. I turn the TV to ABC at 2:00 and whenever OLTL is gone, I will watch Dr OZ and then Desperate Housewives until they take that off the air. Then ABC can do without my time for anything else. They have no business ending shows that have been on the air for over 40 years. I doubt the Spew will last 12 months.

  6. i believe the Chew will be off the air in 6 months. I won't watch anything that is on in that time slot. I recorded AMC every day for the past 25 years and have no intentions of recording a cooking/talk show. I am waiting for the AMC debut online...

  7. I second everyones comment...I use to watch all my children, one life to live and general hospital, now i listen to music from 1-2, then watch the other 2 soaps, then leave the station til the following day...once they take off one life to live..and now talk of taking off general hospital i will never watch those time slots again...so from 1pm-4-pm...ill tune in elsewhere..

  8. Ditto to all above, they all look so phony!! Food belongs on Food channel, not 12:00 CST, on abc.
so AMC was expensive, they don't make enough money??? so chew was the answer??? LOL
I don't see this show making it, no one i know will watch it. they must be paying the audience!!

  9. I used to watch Regis, Rachel, The View, News, Millionaire and then the soaps. But, since AMC if off I havnt tuned in to ABC till 2pm. I will never watch anything that replaces any of the soap slots. Soooooo ABC hope it was worth it. I cant tell you how much I miss AMC. Down with The Chew!!!! I heard it STINKS ( ha ha abc )

  10. ABC will not take this dreadful show off the air. It doesn't cost much to produce and what TV executive is going to admit he was wrong and try and give the viewers what they want. I for one have had enough talk shows to last me for the rest of my life. And we have the food network that does food better and I don't need the foolish chatter.

  11. Never watched The Chew and never will. Nothing original going on there. If I wanted to watch a daytime talk show, I have plenty of other choices. That's not what I am interested in. Loving that the ratings aren't doing well. Why would anyone get rid of loyal "customers" during hard times? Makes no sense to me.

  12. I have always had my DVR on for All My Children. Once OLTL is gone, I'm gone! Sure it cost more money to produce All My Children, but it takes money to make money and who wants to watch another cooking show? Not me, even if you had George Clooney cooking!

  13. I always recorded all 3 soaps as well and enjoy the drama and escape from reality. I will NEVER watch the Chew or any other show replacing my soaps, Id rather mop floors! I resent ABC for being so arrogant. I already enjoy watching online many of my favorite prime time shows that I missed and couldnt DVR and if thats the only way I can tune in to my soaps than thats how I'll do it! KEPP AIRING THE SAME "REALITY/TALK SHOW" JUNK! WAY TO BE ORIGINAL ABC!!!!!!!!! HA!

  14. I haven't watched so much as one minute of the pew. The last time my set visited ABC during that time slot was the final air date for All My Children. I still miss it. I don't know who the ad supporters are or anyone who watches it. I popped in here to see how it rates these days. Nice to hear of its marginal/low ratings. Watched AMC with my kids, with my grandkids and honestly ABC could care less what I think anyway. I hope those of you who matter stick by your refusal to support mindless, repetitive, lead the viewers around by the nose junk. I think icky thoughts toward Brian Fronz. He's old enough to know better and you'd think have better values by now. The selfish, self-absorbed jerk.

  15. Are you kidding me ABC?? Who decided on The Spew?? Hopefully that person is fired! I will not give that lame show my ratings! I have only seen the last few seconds of it And the ONLY reason for that is... my DVR is set to record OLTL! Not looking forward to seeing what kind of crap u put on to replace OLTL! Ugh! Another frustrated viewer!!

  16. What did you think was going to happen? The Zoo does not ABC they have the Food Network. I will not watch it, I can not wait to see what happens to the Zoo in another 2 months.

  17. So happy to see so many people echo my exact thoughts. I used to have ABC on from early morning. Now I turn it on at 2. Once OLTL goes off I may not turn it on at all. What a bonehead move this was! If AMC returns online I'll even pay to watch it if I have to. But the chew will never be on in my house. I watched AMC for 40 years...

  18. The Chew can BITE ME!!! I will NEVER turn it on, won't even watch a commercial for it!! I record Classic All My Children Episodes on SoapNet now just to get my fix until new episodes air online. my tv doesn't record anything until General Hospital at 3pm...ABC made the biggest mistake ever when it decided to cancel All My Children!! I hope Bryan Frons gets fired when they see the error of their ways!!

  19. The hosts of this show do not gel. I love Mario and Michael, the women are horrible. The other guy should have his own design show, but should not be talking about food. Who are the other three anyway? Ugh. Michael Mario..get out while you are still respected.

  20. I watched AMC for 35 years. Since we bought the first VCR in 1980, since replace by DVR, I haven't missed an episode. Am I recording the Chew? Be serious--I work for a living. The last thing I need is another daytime talk show. ABC and its advertisers didn't just lose the 2.4 million views who tuned in at noon (Central time) every day, but all the rest who, like me, stayed loyal through the decades. It's too bad ABC chose not to give the same loyalty to us.

  21. I have watched AMC for years. I DVR it every day. The LAST things we need are more food, talk & court shows! Soaps were the minority. I guess I'll still have my Y & R.

  22. Why watch this hateful replacement. Marha is on at the same time.

  23. ABC MESSED UP BIG TIME TRYING TO SAVE MONEY FOR A DUMB SHOW .THE CHEW WILL BE OFF AIR AND THEY LOST ALOT OF VIEWERS IN THE PROCESS....BAD ABC BUT THATS WHAT YOU GET HAHAHAHA

  24. Arrogant and ignorant are the only two words to describe Frons. After OLTL is gone, I will never tune into ABC daytime or night time.

  25. I do'nt care about AMC as much as OLTL I watch
the CW until 2p when I record OLTL and GH my

  27. I agree , I think ABC is crazy and no real soap fan would turn on the chew or anything else that takes our soaps time slot . this is just all vey sad , I have watch the ABC soaps since i was little and grew up with them what a sad year for soap fans . i really thought One Life To Live would be saved when ABC saw how poor the Chew is doing

  28. I was so looking forward to watching AMC online but now I hear that Prospect Park is only going to produce OLTL. Hopefully that rumor is false. The Spew will never be watched in this house and neither will the Revolution when it comes on in the OLTL timeslot. I think ABC has really cooked their own goose or maybe they should eat crow on the Spew.

  29. Amazing how Disney has turned ABC into a giant commercial for Disney theme parks and plugs for it's movies, etc. News shows now plug entertainment... and who wants another food show? I presumed that's what cable is for. I watched AMC on and off since 1980... it was like family. I will never watch the Spew. I have a few tapes of old AMC episodes and watch them like the treasure they are. ABC... and especially the head of Daytime programing... you suck!

  30. I see a common theme here...many of us DVR'd AMC and I'll bet a lot of us (like me) caught up with it on Soapnet. The show was watched, A LOT, but because it wasn't at a time that ABC could measure it's fan base, they dropped it. I agree, I won't watch that God-awful show EVER. I mean, it's bad enough ABC took away AMC but then to put on a show where that weird ass chick from Top Chef has been let loose...it's like a nightmare! Shame on you, ABC. Shame on you for not realizing that AMC's fan base is large and loyal...and shame on you even more for planning to do the same thing with OLTL! Maybe you'll realize the error of your ways before you pull the plug on them!

  31. Okay I never watched AMC. So here is another review from a different POV. I tried watching this show because I love Food Network and Michael Symon. I'm indifferent on Mario and have seen Clinton Kelly on my favorite show Rachael Ray. I gave it a chance for a week, and all I saw was "biting" off Rachael "over the shoulder for luck" with the salt. "it's not easy being green bean casserole". Rachael made it the day before. Rapid fire questions = Rachael's Big Three. Either Rach is an exec producer on the Chew, or someone watches her show and copies all the signature things. I won't be watching the Chew anymore. It's not original.

  32. I will never watch The Chew, nor will i watch the show that will be replacing OLTL. The last thing television needs is another food and weight loss show. These shows are unoriginal. Bye bye ABC.

  33. Well it just so happens that i find the chew very entertaining. I watch it everyday and always enjoy it. Hope it stays around for a while.
