If you read the whole story, you see that they're comparing the week ending January 22nd to the same week last year - the same week Regis Philbin announced he was leaving, which provided a ratings boost.
The real story is that, overall, Live ratings are up four percent on average since Regis left. For the full 2011-2012 season to date, the ratings are up eight percent from the prior year. The show regularly draws in almost four million viewers per week.
As I've written before, Ripa deserves a great deal of credit. She's had a whirlwind of rotating hosts since "Reege" left last November. That means becoming familiar with a new person every couple of days, keeping the conversation going, changing the dialogue almost daily to adapt to a different person's style and background. I don't know how she does it.
I'm not Kelly Ripa's biggest fan. I think she's great, though probably a little too high energy. However, the Hollywood Reporter should be a little more responsible in its reporting and it should apologize to who is without a doubt one of the most talented talk show hosts we've ever seen and one who doesn't get nearly the credit she deserves.
Kelly is fantastic. She is one of the most talented, funny, intelligent, and beautiful talk show hosts. She is doing so great after Regis, and for the people who think it is easy, it's just because she makes it seem easy. I don't know how she does it with new hosts that are quiet and don't talk very much. It would be so hard to talk and be the host for both of them. She is really talented and has a gift as a talk show host (both a natural gift and years of hard work.) Best of all, the thing about Kelly is that she is a person who is so likeable. I know there are so many people who believe like I do, and for the people who are critical, I'd like to see how YOU would do as the main talk show host - holding it all together without Regis!
