ABC Daytime Ratings Update: The Chew, Etc.

ABC's daytime ratings slide continued druing the week of June 4th.

The View had a six% drop from one year ago.  The Talk, meanwhile, was up by 24% from last year.  The View had 2.82 million viewers and was down 15% among women 18-49, 17% among women 25-54.   The overall number was down from even the previous week when it had 3.22 million viewers.

The Talk had 2.29 million viewers, up from the previous week's 1.97 million, and was up 16% among women 18-49 and up 26% with women 25-54.  With women 18-34, it was up a whopping 31&.

Terrible ratings for both The Chew and The Revolution are said to be driving the overall daytime slide for ABC.

The Chew posted 2.08 million viewers during the week in question, up slightly from the previous week's 2.07 million, and down 24% among women in the 18-49 demo and down 26% with women 25-54.  Only women 18-34 seem to be watching the show; those ratings were down only 6%.

Here are the soap ratings for the same week:

Young & the Restless CBS 3.2/10 4.31 million viewers

Bold & the Beautiful CBS 2.2/7 3.06 million viewers

General Hospital ABC 1.8/5 2.34 million viewers

Days of Our Lives NBC 1.9/6 2.54 million viewers

  1. Excellent! Glad to hear that ABC numbers are steadily declining.

  2. Now we need to get the numbers up for Days of Our Lives and keep General Hospital going strong as well.

  6. Down 400k in a week-and we soap fans continue to wonder why. On a side note, another solid week for GH, up 17K/65K

  7. I hope the slide continues. Although I am confused, aren't these shows that Brian Frons said we wanted to watch. Wait, my bad. NOT! May the demise continue ABC. Personally, I cannot think of a station that deserves this more than you.

  8. I watched ABC last night at 10 pm because of the Nik Wallenda Niagra Falls event. Before that, ABC, nor any of the Disney-ABC owned cable/satellite TV channels have been on my TV. I haven't watched The Talk because it is a rip of of The View and I don't think that it is right to rip people off, so I have been sticking to the Jeremy Kyle show, and taping Jerry Springer and Steve Wilkos with my DVR. Don't expect to see ABC on my TV again anytime soon. I will stick to a HD simulcast of Monday Night Football, ripped off of Baltimore City Comcast Cable, on my local NBC affiliate, WBAL-TV channel 11.

  9. I gave up daytime TV when ABC canceled All My Children. I will never, ever stop wanting "my show" back. It was my perpetual novel. I appreciated the way AMC always had a storyline about real life, and they increased public awareness about social issues. Can't say enough about the actors. Some of the best I have ever seen were on AMC.

  11. Only watching GH. Will not watch good afternoon AM.ABC has caused irreparble damage to their corporation.Bring back OLTL.I haven't watched the annoying view in years. Surely talk and reality shows have to die soon!!Monday night ABC is all reality.R.I.P. 1. Yes, my boycott is still going strong, I don't watch ABC any more, especially since the canceled AMC and OLTL! Now I am watching BRAND NEW EPISODES OF AMC & OLTL ON HULUPLUS!!! I will take those online episodes before I start watching GH just because ABC makes me! The Chew is a joke, and ABC has showed that they don't care about the fans, only the $$$. So off to Hulu I go!

  12. I won't be satisfied until all the replacement shows fail and all the ABC/DISNEY exec's responsible for the demise of AMC and OLTL are FIRED !!!!

  13. I think Neilsen has more CBS soap fans with boxes then ABC.GH should be higher and The Spew lower.I personnally cannot find anyone I know that likes the Spew.Even the ones that watch cooking shows said it was terrible and after one time would not watch it again. All the critics gave bad reveiws so why is Neilsen the only one watching it?I've enailed them for the proof and they refused.Need a new more accurate ratings sysyem.Neilsen is off and favors certain networks.

  14. Well, what can ABC expect? When are they going to realize the viewer is NOT a sheep that will accept anything ABC throws out there? When you were the only game in town, you ruled the roost. But there are so manhy channels out there now that you cannot play these eletest games anymore. Wake up people! Or your going to find yourself with so few viewers that sponsors will take their business elsewhere.

  15. I hope ABC/D ranks on the bottom on every show they produce. They replaced our OLTL with what Mr. F said we would watch but he didn't listen to us & neither did ABC other execs so they reap what they sowed, which is nothing. I have & will continue to boycott ABC,exect GH, til OLTL is back on the air. Abc took part of our families & until we get them back ABC will keep loseing people.

  16. ABC is ran by idiots, all they care about is reality shows....and reality shows are fake with wannabe actors....all those bachelors and bachelorette's are whore's and male whore's, those at DWTS- are just bad exotic dancers, and ABC said that is what viewers did not want from the soaps, but it ok for DWTS pro's to dance around half naked all the time....and who really wants to see Derek Hough all the time, the guy can't even dance...if it wasn't for his looks, he would never won that show....plus the co-host, if you could really call her one....sucks at her job...reality shows are just stupid, and I do not want to see anymore....and this upcoming Glass House show, give me a break...it is a copycat of CBS's Big Brother....and I won't be watching....another thing Katie Couric will leave her show after 3 months- if it last's that long....and for everyone at ABC/Disney "Screw You" from millions of fans....

  17. As long as Neilsen keeps The Spew above 2 million it won't get cancelled.People need to email Neilsen and ask them where are all these people at that is watching the spew.If the veiw is losing ratings then the spew should be way down.Things are not adding up here.

  18. When the hell will they learn what is happening here? Every week it is the same progress with ABC Daytime which used to be the leader. Now they are at the bottom of everything. Why won't they fire all their managers? Why do we the viewers have to put up with them. The reason is because of GH that is the only show left and we love it. Now ABC is copying also Investigative Discovery with their final witness. Why would anyone watch ABC to see copies of original programming. I think Disney should sell ABC. They have decimated it.

  19. It has become nationwide news that the soap fans have been boycotting ABC. I am sure a year ago they thought it was funny. Who is laughing now? I hope people will continue our cause! ABC needs to learn that they can't replace our beloved shows for the cheap trash now on the air! I can't even bare to look at the commercials of the CHEW.. they all act SO stupid!I know it isn't the hosts fault, they didn't cancel AMC, but I still can't bear to even look at them. EVERYONE, PLS support GH and DOOL! Dennis

  20. Glad they're in the toilet with the dismal replacements for the soaps. Hate to say I told them so....

  21. The BOYCOTT OF ABC/D is ALIVE AND GOING STRONG! Lets see how high we can get GH. ABC/D is losing millions everyday!

  22. My TV has never been on the Chew or the Revolution ... I have watched General Hospital for 43 years and OLTL and AMC from their beginnings ... My TV never use to turn off of ABC in the Daytime, now it is only there from 2-3pm for GH. They need a younger audience? I'm 53 years old and have a lot of TV watching years still ahead of me ... ABC seems to have forgotten that the the Baby Boomers who brought these shows to the top of the ratings in the 70s & 80's and have faithfully watched these shows all these years are getting ready to retire ... and we all planned to watch "our shows" when we do. Now we're watching The Young and the Restless and Days of Our Lives instead ... Wise up ABC! Get rid of the crap and bring back our shows.

  23. i watch abc one hr a day now, for gh,then off till next day since comcast took soapnet off for disney jr,that channel is never on in my house.abc/disney forgets women handle the money do all the shopping in house,so when abc disney lose sponsers they know we are mad,and its getting worse

  24. About the only time I watch ABC is during the local news and on Wednesday nights to catch the sitcoms. I still record GH, but don't really care for the storylines.

  25. Have never watched The Chew and never will nor will I ever watch Katie.
The only time ABC is on is for General Hospital I have started watching Y &R and B&B and at 3 I watch the doctors ABC gets no support until they cancel these crap shows and bring back OLTL
Brian Frons was a idiot guess karma is coming to ABC

  26. I think The Chew is a great show! It's not the chews fault that the soaps were cancelled. I too grew up with All My Children and was very upset when ABC decided too end it after all those years but they did and i think people should give The Chew a chance. It's really a pretty good show. As for the show Katie, I give it three months.

  27. Have Not and will not watch the Chew or Katie. I am proud to admit that I never watched that other little show....you know the one...it took the place of our much loved soap....ABC its probably too late to bring our soaps back...and as luck should have it is too late for you to regain all the viewers you have and will continue to lose can we say a collective "really"

  28. Way to go ABC you lost interest in the soaps I find my viewing habits changing the days of my life are now spent with the bold and beautiful seems you are not the only ones who are young and restless! Oh what a dangerous web we weave.....

  29. I thought it only fair to watch a few episodes of the Chew. Watched first two days, intending to watch a week, and couldn't take another day. Tried again a month later to see if they'd caught their stride, but if anything it was worse than I remembered. I gave The Revolution a chance too, and couldn't get through a whole episode.
