Ratings for The Chew and The Revolution on ABC - Week of January 23

Good news for the legions of ABC soap fans who have been boycotting the network since it dropped One Life to Live and All My Children.

Ratings for both replacements were off last week.

The Revolution dropped to 1.53 million viewers, a nine percent fall.  That's particularly bad since last week was down from the previous week.  Compared One Life to Live during the same week last year, there was a whopping 39 percent plunge in total viewers (2.51 to 1.53 million). The news is even worse among women, a key part of the audience for advertisers.

The Chew isn't doing much better.  It's not living up to All My Children's ratings from one year ago.  The numbers are down six percent down overall (2.51 to 2.34 million), 23 percent in women 25-54 (1.3/ 7 to 1.0/ 6), and 22 percent in women 18-49 (0.9/ 5 to 0.7/ 4).

I don't think ABC is close to bringing back the beloved soaps, but they're going to have to do something if these two very clumsy programs continue to fail.  Who knows?  Crazier things have happened.

  1. If these two bad examples of entertainment fail, ABC-D will just replace them with more cheap to produce bad examples. Which, by the way will go down the same toilet! Best thing ABC-D can do is let Agnes Nixon have the rights to AMC & OLTL back & then they can crawl away with their tails tucked between their legs!

  2. ABC/Disney is not just losing viewers on these 2 awful replacement shows. Ratings are down on ABC/D. They are trying to get us to watch these awful talk shows with hosts that are awkward to say the least. ABC needs to realize that we are not interested and are dropping them. They need to go on The View and apologize for lack of good judgement and announce that they are getting our stories back!!!

  4. ABC, you made a bad move. just admit it. the numbers show that. those two replacement show won't last long. talk show about cooking? there is cooking network devoted for that and you have rachel rey on cbs. the last thing we need is more cooking. talk show about self improvement? a week following someone going thru a transformation? who wants to see that. it great for that person to make them feel better but not all the audience will identify with that person because they are not going thru that experience. just bring back the soaps or give up the rights of the soaps so we can watch them elsewhere.

  5. The ratings were not bad for the soaps. I don't understand what statement was attemting to be made by taking them off the air. If they were too expensive put them back to 30 minutes as they were years ago. Why take a bit of fantasy away from viewers that watched for decades? Is that they way to thank your viewers ABC? I've switched to The Young and the Restless and although I miss my favorites AMC and OLTL characters, I will adjust. Sad, I thought that the networks wanted to be number 1.

The Chew and Revolution shows, that I have watched only once each, strike me as people that try to hard to want you to like them. They are not entertaining and actually do talk down to the viewers.

No thanks ABC. I don't even watch the local news at noon on ABC any longer. The tv is on CBS until 3 when General Hospital is on. If that is taken off the air, it will not be on ABC at all.

  6. I have quit watching ABC except for GH. I watch B&B, Y7R,GH and DOOL. Before the canceling of OLTL I didn't watch these shows. So ABC not only lost me as a viewer the other networks gained me. I don't watch ABC primetime EVER anymore. There are lots out there that have quit ABC altogether. Thats alot of revenue they have lost for not caring enough about its viewers to at least try to keep AMC and OLTL. I hope they keep that into consideration when it comes time to renew GH.

  13. I now watch Young and the Restless and The bold & the beautiful. I love these two shows now. Now, see if ABC would not have cancelled AMC and OLTL, I would have never known that I could fall in love with the other soaps. ABC was not smart. Anyway, some of my favorite soap starts are on Young & The Restless and Bold/Beautiful. It had to be a man who decided to do this. They like to take away things women really like. As far as the Chew and the Revolution is concern, they will never get my attention. Tired talk show hosts and people trying to give us a guilt complex on how we live our lives. Go to Hell.

  15. That's what the top executives deserve for taking off the daytime soaps amc and one life to live. I have no desire to watch the chew and as for the revelution that the worst show. They need to put the two soaps back on. Until then I have started to watch cbs bb and young and restless. Not only that I seem to do alot more shopping for two hrs till general hospital comes on.

I am happy that some of the stars from OLTL are going to gh can't. Wait for all of them to arrive. I really miss my soaps. Hope ABC keeps failing and they will.

  19. I like The Chew. I like All My Children, One Life To Live, and General Hospital even more. They can do away with The Revolution (which didn't stand a chance from the minute they named it). They need to bring back the soaps--although, I do like the cross-over characters on General Hospital (especially Star and Micheal). The best thing about The Chew is the chemistry of the co-hosts--ESPECIALLY, Carla, Micheal, and..the lead host (can't think of his name, but he's very funny). They're a fantastic combination! It's an interesting show, but not worthy of a "Soap Slot." Most of these shows earned their "hour." I didn't think it right that they didn't.

  20. The Chew and the Revolution should be cancelled they have no originality nor a uniqueness to hold anyone interest it was a bad choice of programming by ABC. ABC should be ashamed of themselves for taking AMC and OLTL off the daytime rooster because of the almighty dollar and replace them with 2 sleepers.
