Ratings for The Chew & The Revolution on ABC Continue to Slide

They continue to fall.  The ratings, that is, for the ABC soap substitutes, The Chew and The Revolution, now seen at 1 pm and 2 pm daily.

Last week, the week of January 30th, The Revolution dipped to 1.44 million viewers from 1.53 million the previous week, according to the latest Nielsen numbers..  That represents half the audience of One Life to Live last year at this time.  The numbers are also down 50% in the three key demographics - women 25-54, women 18-49 and women 18-34.  The Revolution is also trailing The Talk on CBS, which isn't exactly a blockbuster itself.

The Chew is doing slightly better.  It had 2.23 million viewers last week, from 2.34 million the week before last.  All My Children had 2.65 million viewers in the final days of January last year.

We'll continue to keep you posted, since we've seen from the many comments posted that our readers are interested in this week-to-week race that is now slowing to a crawl.

  1. I'm not even a soap opera fan but I find this funny! My wife, daughters and son were devastated when "One Life To Live" was taken off the air and they is currently doing the "happy dance" over this. No literally...they are really doing the "happy dance" right now!

    3. Let those ratings keep plummeting down! That is what ABC/Disney gets for trying to shove their stupid replacement shows down our throats & by refusing to listen to what the fans wanted. They didn't care about the soap fans so why should they care about watching these stupid replacement shows. Happy Dancing here also!!!!

    8. If I did not have such bad arthritis, I too would be doing the happy dance. I started to watch cbs and nbc soaps along with GH. Couric might be a good lead in for GH but cannot replace it. I hope they sell GH to another network and not the internet company that bought the other two

    9. I'm joining the happy dance. Obviously, loyalty is worth nothing to ABC. I hope these replacement shows are a complete failure! ABC deserves it.

Let's everyone do the HAPPY DANCE...WHAT WAS THAT SAYING IN "PRETTY WOMAN" THAT JULIA ROBERTS SAID TO THE SALESPERSON ON RODEO DRIVE...OH YEAH...."BIG MISTAKE".....ABC/D YOU BLEW IT ON THIS ONE...GH ONLY THING I WATCH ON ABC & DISNEY WHO, THOSE CHANNELS ARE GONE FROM MY HOUSEHOLD....and yes please keep us updated.....

    12. I am glad these shows are tanking. ABC/Disney should not treat loyal viewers of 43 years / 5 days a week like we are nothing but unwanted pets or a piece of discarded clothing gone out of style. Either they should fire the marketing researchers or they just refused to listen. Loyal soap fans will not give up hope of having the rights to our shows released and we refuse to watch The Chew or The Revolution and after they get taken off the air we will not watch anything else they air unless it is our soaps. I do not think ABC/Disney anticipated this much backlash or they underestimated the loyal viewers and figured they would just crawl back into their recliners, with chips in hand and watch whatever they gave us...Guess again we are not going anywhere except away from anything ABC and Disney

    13. I so agree..I don't think ABC/Disney thought about the fans of these two long time show. I have watched these shows since I was in grade school now in my late 40's. I refuse to watch any of the replacement shows. ABC/Disney is no longer allowed on in my house with the exception of GH. I will continue to fight for GH to stay on the air and to bring back AMC and OLTL..or to have the rights release to Agnes Nixon so she can move forward..SHAME ON ABC/Disney!!!!

    15. I am happy dancing too, because I foresee ABC/Disney network completely gone if they don't bring back our soaps. We viewers are so organized they should be really scared not to. When all those sponsors who signed on with them at that meeting in New York last May if that was for a 1 yr contract; then things should start to look pretty bleek to them soon. I bet this May they might not even show up to discuss advertising on the ABC network.YAY! Happy Dance!

    16. I hope that the slimey ABC/Disney networks file fir Bankruptcy. That's probably why they are cancelling our soaps, I hope GH survives and by some miracle we can find a way to save OLTl..hopefully on a a new network or internet. If I sound bitter it's because I am.I'm furious with ABC and I would love to see ABC/Disney announce they are in bankruptcy.

    23. It was not ratings it was cost. To produce these terrible shows they pay those few boring people to produce the soaps they had so many stars to pay. But in the end ABC will fail. Shame on them for being so greedy. I heard the jerk head of network that did this is no longer there. Too bad he was not gone before he did so much damage.

  9. Shows such as The Chew and The Revolution are everywhere on tv at any time day or night and I am sick of them. I liked the story lines of the Soaps on ABC. Now I don't turn the tv on in the afternoon unless I put it on a cable news channel. How can so many execs who get paid so very much be so very stupid as to cram this type of programming down our throats? Oh wait, they are not doing this, no one is watching.

    ReplyDelete
  10. I will NOT watch anything on ABC or anything they are affiliated with, since they cancleed One Life to Live & AMC.. I will only watch GH.. they made a big mistake in cancelling OLTL (which had almost 4 million viewers) and AMC (over 2.5 million viewers) for these revolting replacements shows.. OLTL and AMC have been in my life for 4decades (sine I'm a toddler) and I am a RN.. These soaps were more than a tv show, the characters were like family and ABC should have sold them back to Agnes Nixon or another Network..

  11. Love The Chew! They're getting better, and the show is taking on a real life of its own, The hosts are interacting better, and the fact it's about everyone's favorite thing - food - and that they laugh and joke all the time keeps the show refreshing and enjoyable. I hope the ratings get better and the show doesn't get cancelled. I watch it every day (i sneak it into my work day :) ).

  14. Yes, please continue to keep us informed. ABC claimed THIS was the type of programming audiences had been longing for. That's laughable as The Revolution is clearly an EPIC FAIL! Now we must see if Anne Sweeney is a woman of her word and the lowest rated daytime show will bite the dust.

  15. Television is in a sad state today. No choices during the daytime on the main Networks. Our soaps were imaginative and enlightening and we will never stop fighting to bring them back. ABC doesn't want them and we don't want ABC. Their ratings' decline proves that soap fans are not watching that station anymore except for General Hospital. Disney/ABC has lost the respect and loyalty of millions of viewers.

I used to watch many of shows on ABC no longer. 27. Thank you for posting the updates on the Chew and Revolution. I don't know how many talk/self help shows ABC can try to cram down our throats. I feel ABC should just call their daytime lineup Good Morning America Extended. That is what the daytime line up is - with the exception of General Hosptial

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. You are right about that - the entire day..........EVERY DAY - is an extension of Good Morning America! If you will notice.......even just by watching the commercials on SoapNet.......the hosts of Good Morning America, Rachel Ray,The View, The Chew, and The Revolution - continually appear as guests on each other's shows! It is just SO CHEAP!!! ABC daytime is a revolving door of these "Hosts" just spending the day in the studio (staying late at "The Office") so they can appear on each other's shows HA HA - SO PATHETIC!!! I can literally visualize Robin Roberts or Rachel Ray or Barbara Walters etc. - just walking across the hall after taping their own shows and going into The Chew's studio to appear.........yet again - as the "Well Known Guest of the Day".
I wouldn't be a bit surprised if ABC requires all of the different hosts for their daytime shows - to appear monthly on each other's shows as an actual condition of their contracts..........ya know just to further drive home this whole "ABC's A Family" thing, and to show the viewers how they ALL STAND TOGETHER in support and solidarity. It's been pretty clear to ME.........that these ABC execs were counting on the GMA hosts, Rachel Ray, and the annoying Ladies of The View - to plug the hell out of The Chew and The Revolution - and that their plan was to gracefully usher in these two piece-o-crap shows ........ON the coattails - and UNDER the umbrella of the preexisting ABC Daytime "family": GMA, Rachel Ray, and The View - SO TRANSPARENT! It's just awful........and it's really boring, and hokey,it has actually made me look at GMA as a total joke - which really was the only one I could stand in the first place.........but ABC attaching these two shows to GMA, has really compromised the credibility of what WAS..... a pretty enjoyable morning show.

SoapNet runs two back to back episodes of All My Children, One Life To Live, and General Hospital every morning starting at 1:00am. OF COURSE.......these are reruns, but I watch them as I am a night owl (don't have to get up for work in the a.m. - and at least I can see "my old friends". These are THE ONLY thing I watch on SoapNet, and I figure that perhaps if they get wind of the fact that people watch them.................maybe it will demonstrate how much people care about these shows. You would think, that the least the network could do - is air these reruns at a decent hour, so that all the fans who miss these shows so much, could revisit them - like I do.

      Delete
    2. And.....I am ALSO pretty sure that Agnes Nixon, all other writers, directors, producers, and actors receive royalties every time one of these episodes runs - so I don't want them to take THESE off the air too - by claiming that "no one watches them".

  28. In Europe the Soap Opera's are on at noight so the working people don't miss them. I hate ABC..

  29. Television viewers do not want more reality programs with third rate B celebrities, there are too many right now at other times during the day, on other cable networks and endless at night. ABC will regret but never admit to the mistake they made in cancelling All My Children and One Life to Life, this will be the downfall for the Disney corporation as their stock falls. Good Luck ABC and Disney.

  30. I love the comment that they can call the other shows...GMA Extended! We dont need more self-improvement shows!!! Low ratings show that majority of us, kinda like who we are and dont need anyone to tell us that skim milk has less fat than whole!!!!!I wish someone at ABC had the guts to admit they were wrong....just hope they realize that GH is still valueable to their daytime lineup. Katie C's show doesnt have much of a chance either......we soapfans do have some power once we rally!!!

    ReplyDelete
  31. How does ABC justify their statement, that the soap opera is a dead genre? Yet shows such as "Lost, The River and Revenge" all pretty much follow the same story telling format....

Can't have DirecTV delete ESPN, Disney or any of the other ABC/Disney owned stations from my subscription, but you can be sure that I have deleted all their channels from the various profiles on our satellite boxes.

Our household boycott also extends to any feature films released by Disney/Touchstone as well as the ban on any books published by Hyperion.

For a list of all Disney owned companies and affiliates here is a link:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_assets_owned_by_Disney

Any advertisers who also continue to purchase time on ANY ABC/Disney channel, their products are also banned from our house.

Boycotting Disney/ABC - AS WELL AS - their advertisers' and respective products is an additional way to be heard.

  39. It would be great to see all their shows do this poorly. I can't wait to see the ratings of DWTS fall.
I was a loyal viewer, but they messed with great daytime shows to put on copycat, wannabe shows with hosts people have no connections to. They are trying to fix us all, but we don't need fixing. We need an escape to relax and enjoy well written shows with romance, mystery and family stories. I miss the old ABC and am so disappointed that those in charge have done nothing for us. It is so so so sad that none of the execs have a backbone or care.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Thanks for reporting, please keep it up. We miss OLTL here, and do not watch ABC (except for GH), nor do we spend money on anything Disney at this house!

  41. The thing is when ABC does finally decide to cancel those shows, they will replace e them with something else instead of giving us what we want! If they were to give us our soaps back, if I were the actors, cast, and crew, I would comeback on the condition that ABC NEVER cancels the soaps again!!!!!!

  42. A network that refuses to listen to its viewers soon finds themselves losing viewership. fans asked, begged and pleaded for them to find a way to keep airing All My Children and One Life To Live... the network instead somehow believes we can be trained to watch what they have to offer. I have not watched ANY programming other than the soaps since April 14th 2011 and should they take General Hospital off the air, the network will NEVER be on in my house.

  44. On January 13, 2012, abc was cancelled from my household. All Disney owned networks are now blocked from my satellite box, including all of the ESPNs, and I'm a big sports fan. Any network that demonstrates such disregard for the viewer deserves no less. One Life to Live should never have been cancelled. The network execs abandoned the viewers, and the viewers have abandoned the network...not just in daytime. ABC is in the hands of incompetent execs. Time to clean house or sell the network off.

Disney isn't allowed in my house either, & I have asked all of my friends & family to stop watching ABC/Disney as well & I am happy to say that most of them have agreed, and the others will only tune in for 2 or 3 shows.

  58. Let's face it people. The face of public TV is changing. They are looking to produce as cheap of programming as possiable. Don't be fooled by the fact that the ratings for your soap is safe. That is what the One Life to Live fans thought. They were wrong. If we can convince another company to start up a channel just for soaps. Your soap will have a home to go to if the network cancels it.
All you have to do is print these coupons fill them out and mail them in.It only takes a few minutes. PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO DO THIS!

There are several Facebook Groups trying to organize an effort to fill out soap coupons for everyone that would be willing to pay your satellite/cable provider to add a soap channel to their lineup. Please it is important that if you are interested PLEASE fill out these coupons and mail them in. You can also contact your friends and family and let them know about the coupons and see if they would also like for you to mail in theirs. Here is the link below for more info about the coupons.

  62. When I want to watch a cooking show, I tune into Food Network. BRING BACK THE SOAPS!!!!

  63. Dump move on the network because obviouly this is about what the network wants rather then what the pulic wants but both shows were already at a disavantage before they ever aired. If you are a soap fan and it really doesn't matter if you watched AMC, OLTL or GH you are not going to watch either show out of respect for the soap. I do find it sad that they take off shows that have been on the air for years to replace it with this if i wanted to watch a cooking show i will watch hells kitchen or top chef. If there really was a problem with the shows why not fix the shows they have but i am for one glad that ABC is failing with this lol

  64. WOW - I must say..........I did not realize - until reading THIS, and the responses to THIS........that ABC not only refused to renew the contracts for All My Children and One Life To Live........but ALSO refused to give Agnes Nixon the rights to HER OWN MATERIAL!?!?! Am I hearing this right? Have I misunderstood??? If I've got this information straight - AND I believe I DO............perhaps LEGALLY - due to the nature of the "Sleazy Corporate Contract" ABC is within its rights to pull this maneuver..................however MORALLY - this is REPREHENSIBLE, and a timely example of CORPORATE GREED..... to the fullest extent! The two replacement programs are just a bunch of cheap schlock - there is NO QUESTION about THAT.................but I am more concerned with this matter of ABC's treatment of a writer (now that I know what REALLY happened) and how easy it was for them to dismiss all the years of hard work - on the part of THAT WRITER - and imposing what amounts to .........conditions of ENTRAPMENT - at the same time. What kind of SOULLESS F*&^%S would make 40 + years worth of money off of an artist, dump the artist........and then REFUSE TO ALLOW that artist to continue on with her/his life of creating - and making a living from that work - elsewhere??? The SOULLESS F*&^%S at the head of the arts and entertainment industry.............THOSE are the people - who think nothing of treating an artist this way!!! Yes.......I AM a fan of those programs, but I am also a writer, an artist, and a musician - and I'll tell you - I never believed in The Devil.............until I caught a glimpse of "The Industry". Now KARMA................IS something I've ALWAYS believed in - and it looks like ABC...........just may be getting a taste of it.

  65. I've hoped from the beginning the 'spew' and the 'revulsion' would crash and burn. Serves you right ABC! BRING BACK OLTL! NOW!

  66. That's why ABC won't give up the rights to OLTL. When The Revolution tanks...they can bring back OLTL and improve GH ratings and then maybe the fans will support Katie Couric in a 4pm est time slot. We helped make Oprah and we'll help her.

  67. i am so happy to see so many oltl fans boycotting abc/disney as so many of you abc is not watched at all except gh.and also remember do not put gh on 1 minute before it starts since it counts towards the chew or revolution as being watched

  69. I just found this site. I am also glad the shows are not doing well not fault of the stars, just the network. We are loyal fan base. What are the advertiser saying about this. I know I have more free time. QUESTION to the advertisers, Are you sales down, if we don't watch we don't buy. Bring back AML and OLTL. We will be happy and so will you.
