Ratings for The Revolution Down Again; The Chew Holds Its Own

The Revolution is not doing any better in the ratings since last week, but it’s not doing worse, according Nielsen ratings for the week of February 13, 2012.  The program had 1.53 million viewers in each of the last two weeks. It’s drawing 820,000 fewer viewers than One Life to Live, a 35% difference in the soap’s favor.  One Life to Live, during the week of February 14, 2011 had 2.35 million people watching.

Among women, the difference is even greater – -42% for women 35-54, -44% for women 18-49 and -40% for women 18-34.

I know, from the hundreds of comments we’ve received on this blog only, that viewers aren’t happy.  But what about the advertisers?  Why aren’t they raising a stink?

I applaud the many readers who have told us they are boycotting ABC altogether, which will eventually be a message received by advertisers.  Many are still watching General Hospital, though its numbers are at an all-time low, probably because no one is watching its lead-ins.

Soap Ratings for last week:

Total Viewers
1. Young & Restless 4,744,000 (-11,000/+100,000)
2. Bold & Beautiful 3,285,000 (-65,000/+494,000)
3. Days of Our Lives 2,468,000 (+7,000/-89,000)
4. General Hospital 2,162,000 (-31,000/-346,000) (all-time low)

Over at The Chew, the news (unfortunately for our readers) is not as bad.  That banal and personality-challenged show had 2.30 million viewers last week, compared to 2.38 million the previous week.  The numbers are dwindling, but not by much.  By comparison, All My Children, was only doing 2% better at this time last year with 2.35 million total viewers.

ABC executives have to be getting worried at this point.  Their new shows are not doing well, even compared to The Talk on CBS, which had 2.35 million.  It’s only real daytime winner is The View with 3.78 million viewers.

ABC, during primetime, rarely even has a program in the top ten.  It’s time the network starts making changes that will please viewers.

  1. I hope that ABC will bring back the soaps because I hope they see what the viewers want to watch are the soaps.i And we our not like dogs to be trained to watch the new shows. They want to make money so do the right way listen to the viewers. If they don't want the soaps sell them to another networks. I feel they would get some fans back.

    1. I have boycotted ABC and cannot understand why it took away AMC and OLTL. The one thing that gave them was at least loyal viewership. I have not watched GH since OLTL has gone off the air. I also want to know why Ty Pennington would end a great show Extreme Makeover to join a vapid show like The Revolution. The advertisers need to get it right...ABC seems to have lost their mind just as they have with their years of low rated evening programming.

  2. Well, i highly doubt this will help oltl or amc but this could be good news for gh especially with the addition of some of the oltl characters this may get the ratings up and keep general hospital on the air.

    2. Amen, I have boycotted ABC except for the view, 20/20 & WWYD. That channel is never on in my house between 1 & 3pm. I set my dvr to record other channels just so it won't go to ABC!!! I don't watch any of their sit-coms anymore either!

  5. It is time for ABC to see the light. They need to cancel The Revolution move GH to its time slot (since Katie C is going in the GH slot in Sept) They can reair classic AMC and OLTL episodes, sell the rights to these shows to an entity that wants them and attempt to being ABC back to its glory days........a time when people watched

  6. THE CHEW IS THE 2ND BIGGEST JOKE ON ABC AND THE REVOLUTION IS 1ST. THEY TAKE OFF AMC AND OLTL FOR THESE SICKENING SHOWS-YEA RIGHT-I USE TO LOVE ABC/DISNEY BUT GUESS WHAT THE ONLY TIME I WATCH ABC NOW IS GH. IF ABC/DISNEY GOES DOWN WELL ITS THEIR FAULT-AND AS FOR OSCARS-DIDNT CARE TO WATCH-WHY SHOULD I? ABC DIDNT CARE WHAT I WANTED SO WHY SHOULD I CARE WHAT THEY WANT..

  7. I won't watch the chew or the revolution or anything else on ABC except for General Hospital. I am bored to death with reality shows, cooking shows, home shows, lifestyle shows and talk shows. Give me a story to watch. Give me my soaps.

  8. ABC has taken it's daytime viewers for granted way to long. I have been boycotting them since All My Children and One Life to Live was taken off the air. I have been a soap fan for all 3 ABC Soaps for 30+ years and have since switched my allegience to
CBS. I am currently watching The Young and The Restless, The Bold and The Beautiful, The Talk and General Hospital. It appears that others are switching to CBS also according to the increase in ratings. CBS should send ABC's executives (Frons and Sweeney) a dozen of roses thanking them for their help!

    1. I have done the same. It took a little bit for me to get into the storyline but I now enjoy The Young and The Restless and The Bold and The Beautiful. I do watch the talk at times as well since it follows these two shows. It's good to have soaps to watch again.
However, I do hope our ABC soaps return with writers who will entertain and not put so many causes as storyline's. I'm not against causes but soaps are not the appropriate place, We see enough of the other issues on the long list of talk shows. How many woman can Bianca turn gay on AMC?
I want the good old days when I actually cried and laughed with the characters. I want to be entertained and I'm not finding that much on TV anymore at any time.
If we don't boycott all these reality shows, TV will never be the same again. Entertainment, not issues I want to escape all that for those three hours. Thanks for allowing me to speak my 2 cents.

    2. JOHN MARCH 7 2012
I refuse to watch the Talk. By watching this garbage, you are playing into their hands. And yes,now Will could possibly be gay. Is this all that the writers could come up with. I now spend a great deal of time surfing through the guide for good L and M movies, star,HBO. Thank God for DVR's

  9. I, too, am banning ABC. I stopped watching the evening news with Diane Sawyer & switched to NBC with Brian Williams. ABC is not allowed to be watched in my house. As far as I'm concerned, the leters ABC describes their programs beautifully: "ALL BULL CRAP!"

  11. A simple equation: ABC stopped promoting ABC Daytime shows during Prime Time hours. Results: The audience shrank. Now with no one watching during Day Time to see ABC promotions for night time shows, their new shows aren't working and even stalwarts are faltering. Seems like The View, a show I rarely watch, is the only thing at ABC that is really working anymore. If it weren't for my devotion to AMC and OLTL, I wouldn't have seen the promotions for Lost. Even with these promotions, I thought it wouldn't last but at least it piqued my curiosity enough to catch the premier. Thanks to ABC Daytime, I watched the premier and the entire series. It was the best series I've ever seen.

I still watch GH but refuse to watch anything new (or dated) on ABC prime time. I still watch Modern Family and Desperate Housewives but will be down to 2 ABC shows come fall - that is assuming GH is kept on the air. The ratings decline for GH is seriously disturbing but I think it has more to do with the poor programming decisions ABC has made. OLTL was Grade A daytime programming. It was the best soap ABC had. What were TPTB thinking when they decided to pull the plug? A bigger year end bonus perhaps? Anne Sweeney should lose her job. She supported Brian Fron's recommendations (the worst case of group think in corporate decision making since the Enron catastrophe which was made worse by the revelation the Frons was a contract employee and had no vested interest in seeing ABC/Disney succeed) and therefore, should lose her job. Chainsaw Frons, the ultimate Machiavellian since Iago...Jumped ship before the full ramifications of his destructive nature and disconnection with the audience was fully felt. Wow...How many years will it take for ABC to recover from those two Bozo executives and their staff?...I'm not sure I care. I do know one thing for certain...If ABC offs GH, I will just move over to another network and won't watch anything on ABC. Probably won't go back to Disney World to spend my vacation dollars either.
The ABC soaps were deliberately railroaded by Brain Frons. Maybe someone with true vision at ABC would realize the value of resurrecting the lost franchises, perhaps in different or more modern formats and well... bring about some goodwill among their previously devoted viewers. Soaps aren't a "perfect" format but still were and are wildly entertaining. A far better diversion from reality then well..."reality".

  12. Still cannot believe ABC thought these awful shows would take them to the top. They are plummeting and I am loving it. Loyal fan of AMC & OLTL for their entirety and am still sick that they are gone. I guess whoever wanted to play God at ABC, got the message,, Oh, yea. They're not there anymore.

  13. I am also not pleased that ABC has chosen to replace AMC and OLTL with yet another informational program. If I have to listen to one more program telling me what to eat, what to wear or how to entertain I think I will throw up. I am a professional woman with a full time job and a family, I think I can figure it out.Life is stressful enough without someone telling us that we are doing it wrong. The soaps were to me, a chance to get away from work and family for a few hours. An occasional program with tips on cooking and decorating is great but everyday the same thing over and over...How many different ways can you cook chicken??

  14. As a long time viewer of ABC shows, I can't believe the drivel they are trying to force feed us. I swear the Disney Corp. are not capable of running a network and should stay with cartoons. Oh, wait a minute, after sampling The Chew and The Revolution, I guess they did. As a long time Ty Pennington fan, I am embarrassed for him. With all the variety on cable, I have been able to fill the time 1-3pm daily without resorting to reality shows. But I am there for General Hospital,

  15. I too was a OLTL fan for 30 yrs plus and except for GH ABC IS NOT WATCHED IN MY HOUSE. BRING BACK OLTL ADMIT YOU WERE WRONG ABC...THE REVOLUTION IS A JOKE NOBODY WATCHES NO BODY CARES...BORING..RATINGS DON'T LIE HA HA

  16. ABC should cancel the Chew and the Revolution and take the best actors and/or characters from OLTL and AMC and make one good soap. Then ABC has one hour for Katie Couric who I find annoying.

  17. Karma ABC! It's a bitch....

  18. Unfortunately I think that too much time has gone by since AMC and OLTL have been axed to resurrect them. The actors have moved to other networks and other characters. I do love that their "money makers" are bombing. I will laugh as I bring my loyality to the other networks!
