Ratings for The Chew Up Slightly from Last Week, but Flat Overall

The Chew ratings are up from last week and they’ve hit an all-time high.  The show has been on five weeks.  It’s received many of negative reviews, and judging by comments from the readers of this blog, people don’t like it.  They especially don’t like that it replaced the beloved All My Children.

Despite that, the audience numbers have grown.  Sort of.  There were 2.156 million viewers last week, up from 1.94 million, an increase of 216,000.  Interestingly, the program started out with 2.1 million viewers, lost a couple of hundred thousand, and is now back up to the original level.  In effect, that means viewership is flat and still below All My Children’s numbers for last year at this time.

I agree with our readers.  I’ve seen the show.  It has no direction.  The hosts have no chemistry and they’re generally without a talent for broadcasting.  They have little appeal.  For the millionth time, the last thing we need is another talk show or another cooking show.  Combining the two is less appealing, not more so.

  1. THE CHEW STINKS, PLAIN AND SIMPLE. ABC - WAKE UP AND FIND THE VIEWERS BETTER PROGRAMMING. I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT AMC WAS CANCELED FOR THIS GARBAGE! BRIAN FRONS - RUINING ABC DAYTIME!

  2. I love The Chew. I"m sorry for those that loved soap operas but I never watched them so I can't really commiserate. However, I do have to put dinner on the table every night and this show is wonderful. They have fresh ideas, they have healthy ideas and they always have fun. It's good to laugh.

  3. I miss my hour of get away with AMC. I can watch any cooking show at any time day or night and it will be better the the chew. I spit the chew out! ABC has made a big mistake and if they are smart they will try to save One Life to Live before they need to fill 2 hours of air time that won't bring in as many viewers. I no longer have my TV set to ABC from 1:00 - 2:00 and once OLTL is off it will expand to include 2:00 to 3:00

  4. Though I started watching AMC from the very beginning, I stopped watching it years ago due to the slow pace and nothing ever was resolved. Now I am a lover of The Chew. I really enjoy the fast pace, the recipes and the various hosts and find the show to be upbeat. Many times I look up the recipes on ABC an hour before the show airs and print the ones I want to try.

  5. The Chew is a poor substitute for All My Children. There are better food/cooking shows on other channels. I wonder what they will come up with to replace One Life To Live. The choke? If the ratings police are checking our TV they will notice that ABC is not tuned in from 1 - 2pm any longer. When One life to live goes off the air it won't be tuned in from 2 - 3pm either.

  6. I love the Chew. Daphane needs to lighten up a bit and not try so hard but she is coming along. I would love her ideas if she did it with less preachiness. She can give us the same info without hitting us over the head with it.

Michael, Clinton and Carla are great fun to watch.

  7. Not a fan of the Chew. I do not watch it. There are enough of these kids of shows. We can watch them on demand too. I won't be watching The Revolution come January. Not interested. ABC is going down hill fast. I do watch Revenge, but that is about it. I have switched to many NBC shows and a few CBS even for my local news I have made the switch.

  8. I love the chew i hope it stays on forever and ever. I esp love Clinton as host. And Michael Symon and his laugh is just cute. Daphne's knowledge of health is astounding. And Carla she is a breath of fresh air. I love that shes never eaten a hot dog . And then we have Mario Batali. They have a gem with Batali. He must have not have anything better going on or they offered him a pretty penny to be in on this mindless show. Good grief! Yes yes I was being sarcastic and condescending. I HATE this show. I tried to watch with an open mind. i was not an All My Children viewer so there is no bias on my part. But as someone so eloquently posted THE SHOW STINKS!!!!!

  9. I like the meal ideas, but some way too high in fat. Mario and Clinton are great, Carla needs to either calm down or go to acting school, and Daphne needs to quit the giggly laugh already. I'd like to see this show stay in the kithen rather than visit the Pan Am set.....I mean, really? And then Daphne serving an entre to The Chew cast in a Pan Am uniform?...how utterly ridiculous.

  10. The only time ABC is on in my house now is from 2-3. I have seen the commecials for The Chew and it has no appeal. I loved AMC it took me away from my life and into a more glamorous and sexy world. I have boycotted ABC and will never tune in again after OLTL is over. I don't care what kid of shows they come up with. They just lost one viewer for life!

  11. OLTL and GH are the only two ABC shows I watch. Other than that it is never on in my house.

  12. It's just a bizarre show.Too many competing personalities. Clinton is no value added whatsoever. Mario & Mike are in a pissing match. Daphne is immature, though her info can be good. I do like Carla, but she needs to tone it down a bit. They just don't gel. Oh, and instead of those stupid audience people eating the food, bring in someone from a shelter to take it away. Ugh.

  13. The Chew sucks! I use to love abc but not any longer. I dont tune in for anything but OLTL and GH. I use to be a big fan of Greys and Private practice as well but im sure the network will mess them up as well so i just stopped watching,

  14. I used to have ABC on from Good Morning America thru Jimmy Kimmel. Now I barely watch except for OLTL and the occasional GH or prime time show. The Chew is really bad even for a cooking show. I can't even stand it as background noise. I hope some network brings back AMC and OLTL, and they will get my whole day loyalty.

  15. People who say they are not watching the Chew must be cause they have ratings.I can honestly say I watch ABC from 2 to 4 somethimes I watch doctor Oz. I use to watch Lost til it began rerunning and Greys was good at first When GH is done ABC will have hard time getting me back as a viewer ever. There is just so much to watch 2mil is high for a channel gonna be cool when ABC falls, I might start watching B@B young and restless for spite.

  16. What can you say about the Chew, except that ABC couldn't have picked 5 more annoying people to host a talk show, unless of course you consider the 4 new ones that they are planning for "The Revolution." BTW, I hate the View too! Who is coming up with these names anyway??!!
I haven't watched the Chew, not now, not ever;I have started switching between Y&R and Days to watch during the previous AMC hour. All I can say is that the day that GH goes off the air is the day that I turn off ABC for good. And that is saying alot since I don't currently have cable but I think that watching nothing is better than watching garbage!!!

  17. I was never a fan of AMC but am even less of a fan of "The Chew" and for the same reasons as what's already been said. No Chemistry, lack of interesting topics to discuss and while the food is great, especially Daphne's healthy tips, not enough to keep me interested. Sounds like ABC better hurry up and find something else they are just going to continue to lose viewers.

  18. Soaps are entertainment, the Chew is not. ABC has misjudged the public. Yet again, the broadcast powers have crapped on their viewing public.

  19. TWO SEPARATE ISSUES

    1. I do not like that AMC was cancelled.

    2. "The Chew" is not a good show.

  20. The chew sucks. I can't believe AMC was cancelled for this garbage. I have watched it a few times and it is just plain awful. There are a million cooking shows on, do we really need another one? AMC was so much more fun and refreshing and now they have ruined it for all of us.

  21. Do any of thees reviews get to the ABC execs? Too bad if they don't. The chew is no where near as entertaining as AMC was. Palleeeze!!!!!!
