For our loyal readers who have been watching the ABC Daytime ratings since The Chew and The Revolution replaced All My Children and One Life to Live, the news is somewhat gratifying.
During the week of May 7, Nielsen reports The Chew ratings continue to be bad. There were 2.09 million viewers during that week, up slightly from 2.08 million the week earlier. Measured against AMC's number of 2.30 million for the corresponding week last year, it's looking like ABC made a big mistake. The huge disparity, growing each week, means that even with the cost savings of producing a drama vs. a talk show the network is losing big.
ABC's entire daytime lineup is suffering and viewers are flocking to CBS where The Talk continues to pick up steam. It's grown 9% over the past year and had 2.19 million viewers last week. It's not The View, which drew 3.30 million, but it's growing and that's what advertisers like to see.
The Revolution, by the way, had a scant 1.22 million viewers for the week in question, down 53% from the 2.58 million One Life to Live drew a year ago. What were those high paid execs thinking?
ABC should have NEVER cancelled One Life To Live and All My Children. They need to release the rights to them.
ReplyDeleteThat's why the idoit who decided that we need to know how to cook so we could turn back around and lose the wieght quit
DeleteWhat are they thinking now? When are they going to admit they made a mistake and bring our beloved soaps back?
ReplyDeleteI agree. Bring back the soaps.
DeleteWhat are they thinking now? When are they going to admit they made a mistake and bring our beloved soaps back? ABC should take a lesson fom Coke, their sales shot way up when they brought back the original Coke recipe!
ReplyDeleteABC should have left well enough alone & kept the soaps where they were. Idiots.
ReplyDeleteI hope the sponsors are taking notes! The Chew is not the place to draw attention to their products. If the sponsors pull out then maybe ABC/D will get the message and pull the Chew. PP rights to AMC are up in Sept and their rights to OLTL are up in Jan. Wake up ABC/D and revive these two great soaps under the control of Agnes.
ReplyDeleteIs anyone surprised by this? It doesn't take a PhD to understand ABC/D screwed up big time but getting them to admit it & make things right by restarting our stories is another thing.
ReplyDeleteBwahahahaha.
ReplyDeleteABC's decision to replace their decades-old soap operas with cheap, forgettable reality shows is a perfect example of the old axiom "penny wise and pound foolish." They may have saved some money from the production costs by cancelling AMC and OLTL for The Chew and The Revolution, but if these replacement shows have such a small audience that they generate a smaller net profit than AMC and OLTL, then ABC will ultimately not benefit, and the bereft soap fans will still be without their shows.
ReplyDeletewe want are soaps back
ReplyDeleteThat would be our soaps and cancel, maybe pbs would help.
DeleteThat would be our soaps, and it's cancel...maybe pbs would be a better idea.
DeleteThat would be our soaps and cancel, maybe pbs would help.
Deletewe want are soaps back u should not cancal one life to live
ReplyDeleteI would think the sponsors will realize they are losing money with ABC. They should do as the fans have done.Leave ABC except GH. ABC will never admit they made a mistake. Don't admit, just bring OLTL & AMC back & see ratings go up. If not I hope ABC fails.
ReplyDeleteI so agree with you Edna.
DeleteI agree with you 100 % ABC were a pack of idiots to cancelled the soaps and I hope they get what they deserve. Katie's program will be another disaster. CBS kicked her off. Who needs another talk show. There is nothing else out there to talk about. See the advertisement, she is talking about her childhood, like anyone cares. ABC need to realize they F....up & needs to bring our beloved soaps back! I won't be watching; only watch GH
DeleteABC, has lost me!
ReplyDeleteWE WANT OUR SOAPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hurray...Love to see poor ratings!! Even if they don't ever bring back AMC/OLTL I am glad their programming failed!
ReplyDeleteSCREW THE CHEW !!!!!!!!!!!! NO SOAPS NO ABC !!!!!!!!!!!!!! BILL FRANCE FUABC MEMBER ......
ReplyDeleteI agree I watched the The Chew for the first time today. Its bad! Carla Hall all she can do is stand there with her mouth open. Just keep Clinton Kelly, and the show could be a whole lot better.
DeleteSince abc cancel Abc and Oltl I have not return..No Soap No.abc.
ReplyDeleteDo you believe that many is watching the spew.I don't.Neilsen is a corrupted and not regulated system.Read to much how they can add people in there households to boost there favorite shows and some really don't even watch. They don't count soapnet. Why?Alot our watching soaps on there to.ABC is just as corrupted......Mary Amos
ReplyDeleteEven the the Chew fails, whats to keep them from producing another stupid reality show. I want OLTL back as well. Miss my characters. Glad some of them are on GH. Keeps their stories alive.
ReplyDeletei watch abc one hour a day, 5 hrs a week, now since they took soaps off, for general hospital. so i don't know whats being advertised before and after gh, and i;m saving money by not knowing not tempted
ReplyDeleteme too!!!
DeleteAnd the same for me...I will not watch any ABCD and now the rumor mill is going overtime that GH may be going away too! If you check the FB soap boards you will see both it is and is not going. Wish some REALLY knew something. I'm still fighting for the soaps but I am getting tired!
DeleteOooo. That's all I have to say. Can we tank the Chew too? Of course we can.
ReplyDeleteOMG, really "The Chew", one of the worst t.v. shows ever!!!
DeleteIt is tanking. Numbers are way down. Yes, we do want our soaps, and they will never be able to put anything in that those time slots will not be watched. So now the bright idea is put GH at 2:00 so the lead in for Katie Couric will be good. However I will not be watching her. I as many of others only watch one show day and night and that is General Hospital! CBS has a good line up and so does ABC for that matter, it just depends on the preferance
ReplyDeleteABC is still making money with this cheap substitute. The sponsors should pay closer attention.
ReplyDeleteABC is getting what they deserve. Shame on them for canceling our soaps!
ReplyDeleteThey have pulled out all the stops with the Chee & still it is tanking. It will never have loyal viewers soaps did & whatever replaces it will not either. You can't replace something with 40+ history & passed down from generations with cheap knock off of cable channels that are so simple they look like a 5 year old produced them. Bring back soaps & get back viewers or lose th for good.
ReplyDeleteI am so glad that I don't own stock in ABC/Disney. The folks who do, are gonna lose their shirts. These companies are being mismanaged right out of business. If I owned stock in these companies, I would have dumped the shares a very long time ago. Time for a stock holders meeting to get new management before it's too late.
ReplyDeleteI hope the Spew goes down the toilet like a piece of vomit, which I feel like doing when I see the commercials. It's fitting that the Chew's "mascot" is that sour green apple! That one bad apple is the chew and it spoiled the whole wonderful apple tree of soaps!!
ReplyDeleteABC disappeared from my television on Friday, Sept 23, 2011 - the last day of ALL MY CHILDREN. Since ABC has treated soap fans, many of whom watched for nearly 50 years, with nothing but contempt, then they deserve nothing but our contempt in return. What goes around, comes around...
ReplyDeleteAbc/ disney admit you all fail and blame brain
ReplyDeletefrons places it on him because that where it
belongs on brain frons that anti-soap monster.
We soap fans supported GH and kept it on the air, and that meant The Revolution has gone bye-bye. I hope The Chew goes next and Good Afternoon America gets the ax after that. Long live soaps! ABC should do the right thing and bring Agnes Nixon's legacy back to daytime. Enough with this insanity!
ReplyDeleteI agree with the above comments. ABC is on my tv one hour a day for GH. So happy we are able to see the people we love from OLTL its great. Thanks Frank and Ron one, more thing have that awsome John McBain sign a contract. The OLTL cast is doing a great job. Keep up the good work GH love you.
ReplyDeleteAnyone who knows anything about ratings must know that it's not about how much people are viewing, it's about the demographics that they are targeting. It's really not about who watches the show, it's about who watches the commercials. As long as ABC's demo is up, it's good to go, so in other words, quit bitching about the soaps.
ReplyDeleteAs anyone who reads this blog knows, we've pointed out many times that ABC is losing viewers in its target daytime demos of women 18-49. Big losses.
DeleteI LOVE The Chew, SCREW the soaps, young people want entertainment and that is exactly what the Chew is!!! Soaps were eventually going to die anyway! THANK YOU ABC for bringing us The Chew!!
ReplyDelete-Sincerely,
A Happy Camper
Geez anonymous! I teach high school and never hear anyone mention The Chew. Our kids are overweight and eat unhealthy food. Just what they need...The Chew!
ReplyDeleteI find it hard to believe that the numbers that are reported for The View are true! That show is awful and is just a bunch of big mouth hags - wouldn't watch it for any reason. We don't need anymore talk shows of any kind. Certainly won't be watching Katie - she is old news. ABC blew it when they cancelled our soaps!
ReplyDeleteABC you need to bring back All My Children and One to Live. Your tv ratings would soar as well as your profits! Just rectify your mistake to cancel the two soaps because your ratings will not get any better by bringing in another talk show.
ReplyDeleteI am still so sad over the cancelations of One Life and AMC. One Life was in the top 10 most watched daytime show. Please bring back at least One life to live.Domwe have to beg because we will this means so much. You cannot replace soaps that are so beloved with stupid talk shows that are a dime a dozen.
