Ratings for The Chew on ABC Down for Week of January 2nd

It's no surprise to us.  As predicted, now that the holidays are over, ratings for The Chew on ABC are down.  The total audience figure went from 2.77 million during the week of December 26th to 2.12 million last week.  That's a significant dip.

In the year-to-year comparison between The Chew and its predecessor, All My Children, the new show had 350,000 fewer viewers and is suffering a 25 percent drop in women 25-54 and 18-49, important demographic groups for the afternoon.

Next week is the first week One Life to Live will be absent from the ABC line-up.   It will be replaced by yet another talk show, The Revolution.

Things can only go downhill from here for ABC's daytime line-up.  Some have even said programmers have allowed The Chew to "bleed" into OLTL's time slot to absorb some of its numbers.  With the soap gone, that cannot happen any longer and both time slots (1-2 pm and 2-3 pm) are sure to suffer.

Here are the week-to-week audience figures from September to the present for The Chew.  (Some weeks are omitted for space considerations.)

  1. I think this show will continue to go downhill. The only thing that kept it going for this amount of time was as you stated...the holidays. It is still so sad about the soaps and how those actors were treated and lead on for so long.

  2. Wow - I wondered why OLTL always seemed to start a little late! Interesting. I won't watch these new shows - even the commercials put me to sleep.

  3. I believe that The Chew was "bleeding" into OLTL. I would change to ABC at 2pm and that horrible show would still be on. At first I thought it was a mistake, but then it happened everyday after. It got to the point when I would have to wait some before I changed the channel.

I expect this to continue and sooner or later ABC/Disney will have to admit their mistakes if not to the fans than to their investors.

  7. I am so sick of talk shows. ABC is going downhill they are being run by some idiots. They should put all the soaps back on, they are where the loyal viewership was.

  8. ABC,you suck. How can you get away with bleeding into OLTL.You are fools for taking our soaps away. You will be the ones to lose in the end.Us fans will keep our fight going and someone will listen. You screwed the fans over and you screwed yourselves, but remember in the end who will be smiling.

  9. If you go back and look at the ratings before they started bleeding in to OLTL their numbers were horrible. Their numbers never improved, the whole holiday rating increase was bogus. They were stealing rating from OLTL. Go back and see how all of a sudden The Chews ratings were the same as OLTL's. Look at it, it's in black and white. Can anyone say "WAG the DOG". ABC is a master manipulator. Dont believe any of the published numbers. If you have enough money you can make a machine give you what ever result you want. The CHEW IS A FAILURE, THE REVOLUTION IS A FAILURE. ABC IS A FAILURE.

  10. I agree with all of the abve. I do not turn ABC day time until 305pm 4 gh and at 4pm sharpe I change to cable net work. I'm really looking forward to gh when the stars from OLTL start. It doesn't matter what we say but its good to know all soap fans are blocking ABC.
